((Imām Bukhārī narrates)): 'Abdullāh ibn Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Abū 'Āmir narrated to us, he said: Sulaimān ibn Bilāl al-Madīnī narrated to us, from Rabī'ah ibn Abī 'Abdur-Rahmān, from the freed slave of Yazīd al-Munba'ith, from Zaid ibn Khālid al-Juhanī, that a person asked the Prophet ﷺ about luqtah (a thing found lying on the way). He said:
Know the tying of its mouth (the string by which the pouch is tied), or he said: Know the pouch (purse) and the thing that closes it, then announce it for a year, then you may benefit from it yourself, then if its owner comes, give that thing to him. That person asked: What is the ruling on a lost camel? He became angry, until his two cheeks became red, or the narrator said: his face became red. He said: What concern is it of yours? With it is its waterskin and its hoof; it will go to the water and drink and graze upon the trees. Leave it, until its owner finds it. That questioner asked: What is the ruling on a lost goat? He said: It is yours, or it is your brother's, or it is the wolf's.
