(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Abdullah bin Yusuf narrated to us, he said: Imam Malik informed us, from Nafi', from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allāh be pleased with them both), he narrates that:
Hazrat Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allāh be pleased with him) saw a silk garment with golden stripes being sold at the door of the mosque. So he said: O Messenger of Allāh! If only you would buy it and wear it on the day of Friday and on the day when a delegation comes to meet you. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: This is worn by those who have no share in the Hereafter. Then a few garments came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He gave one of these garments to Hazrat Umar bin al-Khattab. So Hazrat Umar said: O Messenger of Allāh! You have given me this garment to wear, whereas you have already said to me that statement about the garment of Utarid. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: I did not give you that garment for you to wear yourself. Then Hazrat Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allāh be pleased with him) gave that garment to one of his polytheist brothers in Makkah to wear.
