Imām Bukhārī mentions that Mahmūd ibn al-Rabī' said:
I heard 'Itbān ibn Mālik al-Ansārī, may Allāh be pleased with him — then 'Itbān said to a man of Banū Sālim: I used to lead my people in prayer among Banū Sālim, so I went to the Prophet ﷺ and said that my eyesight has become weak, and a stream lies between me and the mosque of my people, so I wish that you come to my house and pray at a place in my house, so that I may make it a place of prayer. He said: I will do so, if Allāh wills. Then in the morning, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came to me when the day had risen, and Abū Bakr, may Allāh be pleased with him, was also with him. So the Prophet ﷺ sought permission, and I gave him permission. He did not sit down until he asked: Where in your house do you wish that I should pray for you? He pointed to the place where he wished to pray. Then he stood up, and we formed a row behind him, then he gave the salām, and when he gave the salām, we too gave the salām.
