(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Mūsā ibn Ismā'īl narrated to us, he said: 'Abdul-Wāhid ibn Ziyād narrated to us, he said: 'Umārah ibn al-Qa'qā' narrated to us, he said: Abū Zur'ah narrated to us, he said: Abū Hurairah, may Allāh be pleased with him, narrated to us, he narrated that:
the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to make a pause of silence between the takbīrat al-tahrīmah and the recitation. Abū Zur'ah said: In place of "pause of silence," I think Abū Hurairah said "hunayyah," that is, a little while. I said: O Messenger of Allāh! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! What do you recite in the pause between the takbīr and the recitation? He said: I make this supplication: O Allāh! Make a distance between me and my sins, just as You have made a distance between the East and the West. O Allāh! Purify me from sins just as a white garment is purified from dirt. O Allāh! Wash away my sins with water, snow, and hail.
