((Imām Bukhārī narrates) that) 'Uthmān ibn Abī Shaibah narrated to us, he said: Jarīr narrated to us, from Mansūr, from Abī Wā'il, he said:
'Abdullāh ibn Mas'ūd, may Allāh be pleased with him, used to give exhortation to the people every Thursday. A person said to him: O Abū 'Abdur-Rahmān! I wish that you would give us exhortation every day. Ibn Mas'ūd said: But the thing that holds me back from it is that I dislike putting you into weariness and tiredness, and I observe care and consideration for you in giving exhortation, just as the Prophet ﷺ used to observe care and consideration for us out of fear of weariness and tiredness.
