Imām Bukhārī narrates: Ishāq ibn Nasr narrated to us, he said: Husain narrated to us, from Zā'idah, from 'Abdul-Malik ibn 'Umair, he said: Abū Burdah narrated to me, from Abū Mūsā al-Ash'arī, may Allāh be pleased with him, he said that:
the Prophet ﷺ fell ill, so his illness became severe. He said: Tell Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer. 'Ā'ishah, may Allāh be pleased with her, said: He is a tender-hearted person; when he stands in your place, he will not be able to lead the people in prayer. He said: Command Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer. 'Ā'ishah, may Allāh be pleased with her, repeated her words. He ﷺ said: Command Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer; indeed you are like the women of the time of Yūsuf. Then the messenger of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came to Abū Bakr, so Abū Bakr led the prayers during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ.
