Imām Bukhārī narrates: 'Abdullāh ibn 'Abdul-Wahhāb narrated to us, he said: Hammād ibn Zaid narrated to us, he said: 'Abdul-Hamīd Sāhib al-Ziyādī narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abdullāh ibn al-Hārith, he said:
Ibn 'Abbās, may Allāh be pleased with them both, gave us a khutbah on a muddy day, and when the mu'adhdhin reached "Hayya 'ala al-salāh", he commanded him to say: "Pray in your houses." So the people looked at one another, as if they disapproved of it. Ibn 'Abbās said: It is as if you disapprove of it, though this thing has been done by one who was better than me — that is, the Prophet ﷺ — and indeed this matter is an obligation ('azīmah), and I disliked to put you into hardship.
And from Hammād, from 'Āsim, from 'Abdullāh ibn al-Hārith, from Ibn 'Abbās, may Allāh be pleased with them both, similar has been narrated, except that he said: I disliked that I should put you into difficulty, and that you should come in a state that you are covered up to the knees in mud.
