Imām Bukhārī narrates: 'Imrān ibn Maisarah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Fudail narrated to us, he said: Husain narrated to us, from 'Abdullāh ibn Abī Qatādah, from his father, he said:
We set out one night with the Prophet ﷺ. Some of the people said: O Messenger of Allāh! Would that you stop us in the last part of the night. He said: I fear that you will remain asleep at the time of prayer. Bilāl said: I will wake you all up. Then they all lay down, and Bilāl leaned against his riding animal, then sleep overcame his eyes, so he slept. Then the Prophet ﷺ awoke, and at that time an edge of the sun had already risen. He said: O Bilāl! Where has that word of yours gone? He said: I fell into such a deep sleep as I had never fallen into before. He said: Indeed, Allāh takes your souls when He wills, and returns your souls when He wills. O Bilāl! Stand up and give the adhān for the people. Then he performed wudū, then when the sun rose high and became white, he stood up and led the prayer.
