Imām Bukhārī narrates: Abū al-Walīd Hishām ibn 'Abdul-Malik narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, he said: Al-Walīd ibn al-'Aizār informed me, he said: I heard Abū 'Amr al-Shaibānī, he used to say: The man of this house narrated to us — and he pointed towards the house of 'Abdullāh ibn Mas'ūd, may Allāh be pleased with him — he narrated:
I asked the Prophet ﷺ: Which deed is most beloved to Allāh? He said: Praying the prayer in its time. He said: Then which? He said: Then being good to one's parents. He asked: Then which? He said: Striving in the way of Allāh. Ibn Mas'ūd said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ told me about these, and if I had asked for more, he would have told me more.
