Al-Awzā'ī and others said: I heard al-Zuhrī, from 'Urwah, from 'Ā'ishah, may Allāh be pleased with her, that:
the sun was eclipsed in the time of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, so he sent a herald announcing that the prayer is ready. Then he stepped forward and led the prayer in two rak'ahs with four rukū's and four sajdahs.
Al-Walīd said: And 'Abdur-Rahmān ibn Namir informed me that he heard from Ibn Shihāb a hadith similar to this. Al-Zuhrī said: I said: What does this brother of yours, 'Abdullāh ibn al-Zubair, do — when he prays (the eclipse prayer) in Madīnah, he prays only two rak'ahs like the Fajr prayer? ('Urwah) said: Yes! He has made an error in the sunnah. Sufyān ibn Husain and Sulaimān ibn Kathīr have corroborated 'Abdur-Rahmān ibn Namir in reciting aloud, from al-Zuhrī.
