(Imām Bukhārī narrates): 'Abdullāh ibn Yūsuf narrated to us, he said: Imām Mālik informed us, from Hishām ibn 'Urwah, from his wife Fātimah bint al-Mundhir, from Asmā' bint Abī Bakr, may Allāh be pleased with her, she narrated that:
when the sun was eclipsed, I came to 'Ā'ishah, may Allāh be pleased with her, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ; at that time the people were standing and praying, and 'Ā'ishah was also standing and praying. I asked: What has happened to the people? 'Ā'ishah pointed with her hand towards the sky and said: Subhān Allāh! I asked: Is this a sign? 'Ā'ishah gestured: Yes! Asmā' said: I remained standing until faintness overcame me, then I began pouring water over my head. When the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ turned from the prayer towards the people, he praised and extolled Allāh the Exalted, then said: There is nothing which I had not seen before, which I have not now seen in this place of mine, even Paradise and Hell. And this has been revealed to me: that soon you will be tried in the graves, a trial resembling, or close to, the trial of al-Dajjāl. (The narrator said: I do not know what Asmā' said.) One of you will have (an angel) brought to him, then it will be said to him: What knowledge do you have about this (noble) man? As for the believer, or the one with certainty (the narrator said: I do not know what Asmā' said), Asmā' said: that person will say: This is Muhammad, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ; he came to us with miracles and guidance, so we accepted his message and believed in him and followed him. Then it will be said to him: Sleep peacefully; we knew that you were indeed one with certainty. And as for the hypocrite, or the doubtful one (I do not know what Asmā' said), he will say: I do not know; I heard the people saying something, so I said it too.
