(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Abu Ma'mar narrated to us, he said: Abdul Warith narrated to us, he said: Ayyub narrated to us from Hafsah bint Sirin, she said:
We used to forbid our girls from going out on the day of Eid. Then a woman came and stayed at the palace of Bani Khalaf. I went to meet her. She related that her sister's husband had taken part with the Prophet ﷺ in twelve military campaigns, and her sister had been with him in six campaigns. Her sister said: We used to give medicine to the sick and dress the wounds of the injured. Then she said: O Messenger of Allāh! Is there any harm upon any of us if she does not have a shawl, that she does not go out? He said: Her companion should let her wear her own shawl over her, and they should be present at the places of goodness and the supplication of the Muslims. Hafsah said: Then when Umm Atiyyah came, I went to her and asked her: Have you heard such and such a hadeeth? She said: Yes! By my father! And whenever she mentioned the Prophet ﷺ, she used to say: By my father! He said: Let the young women go out, or he said: Let the young and veiled women go out — the narrator Ayyub is uncertain about this — and let the menstruating women go out and stay apart from the place of prayer, and let them be present at the places of goodness and the supplication of the Muslims. She said: I asked her: Do the menstruating women also go out? She said: Yes! Does not the menstruating woman attend the plain of Arafat, and such and such places (that is, does she not go to Mina and Muzdalifah)?
