(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Sulaiman bin Harb narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Zubaid from al-Sha'bi from al-Bara, may Allāh be pleased with him, he said that

the Prophet ﷺ gave us a sermon on the day of sacrifice, he said: The first thing with which we begin on this day of ours is that we pray, then we return and perform the nahr (sacrifice). So whoever does these things has attained our Sunnah, and whoever slaughtered before praying, that is only meat which he has prepared for his family, there is nothing of worship in it. Then my maternal uncle, Abu Burdah bin Niyar, may Allāh be pleased with him, stood up, so he said: O Messenger of Allāh! I slaughtered before praying, and I have a kid, six months old, and it is more fattened than a one-year-old goat. He said: Slaughter it in its place, or he said: Slaughter it, and after you a six-month-old kid will not suffice for anyone (as a sacrifice).
