(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Uthman narrated to us, he said: Jarir narrated to us from Mansur from al-Sha'bi from al-Bara bin Azib, may Allāh be pleased with him, he said that

the Prophet ﷺ gave us a sermon after the prayer on the day of Eid al-Adha, then he said: Whoever prayed our prayer and offered our sacrifice has performed the worship correctly, and whoever offered the sacrifice before the Eid prayer, that is slaughtering before the prayer, and his worship is not (correct). Then Abu Burdah bin Niyar, may Allāh be pleased with him, who is the maternal uncle of al-Bara, said: O Messenger of Allāh! I slaughtered my goat before the prayer, and I knew that this is a day of eating and drinking, and I liked that my goat be the first to be slaughtered in my house, so I slaughtered my goat and had breakfast from it before the prayer. He said: Your goat is (just) the meat of a goat (that is, it is not a sacrifice). He said: O Messenger of Allāh! We have a kid, six months old, which is more pleasing to me than two goats — will it suffice on my behalf (as a sacrifice)? He said: Yes! But it will not suffice for anyone after you.
