(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Abū al-Yamān narrated to us, he said: Shu'aib informed us, from al-Zuhrī (ح) Imām Abū 'Abdullāh Bukhārī says: And Ibn Wahb said: Yūnus informed us, from Ibn Shihāb, from 'Ubaidullāh ibn 'Abdullāh ibn Abī Thawr, from 'Abdullāh ibn 'Abbās, from 'Umar, may Allāh be pleased with them both, he narrated that:

I and one of my Ansārī neighbours used to live among the tribe of Banū Umayyah ibn Zaid and their settlements, and this was in the upper part of Madīnah. We used to come into the presence of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ by turns, one day he would go and one day I would go. So when I went, I would bring the news of that day's revelation, and on the day he went, he would do the same. So one day my Ansārī companion came on the day of his turn, and he knocked upon my door very hard, and said: Is he there? I came out to him alarmed, and he said: A very serious event has occurred. 'Umar said: So I went to Hafsah, and she was weeping. I asked: Has the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ divorced you? She said: I do not know. Then I came into the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. I stood and said: Have you divorced your wives? He said: No. I said: Allāhu Akbar.
