(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Abdullah bin Yusuf narrated to us, he said: Imam Malik informed us, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj, from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allāh be pleased with him), he narrates that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:
If it were not difficult upon my ummah, or he said: difficult upon the people, I would have commanded them to use the miswak with every prayer.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَوْلاَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمّتي أَوْ عَلَى النَّاسِ لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ مَعَ كُلِّ صَلاَةٍ
