(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Muhammad ibn Bashshār narrated to us, he said: Ghundar narrated to us, he said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abī Jamrah, he says: I used to translate between Ibn 'Abbās, may Allāh be pleased with them both, and the people. He narrated that the delegation of 'Abd al-Qais came into the presence of the Prophet ﷺ. He said: Which delegation is this? Or, who are these people? They said: Rabī'ah. He said: Welcome to this people! Or, this delegation! Neither disgraced nor regretful. They said: We have come to you from a far distance, and between us and you is this tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar, and we are able to come to you only in the sacred month. Tell us some comprehensive command which we may convey to those we have left behind, and because of which we may enter Paradise.

So he commanded them regarding four things and forbade them from four things. He commanded them to believe in Allāh, Mighty and Glorious, alone. He said: Do you know what it means to believe in Allāh alone? They said: Allāh and His Messenger know best. He said: Bearing witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allāh, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allāh, and establishing prayer, and giving zakāh, and fasting Ramadān, and that you give a fifth of the spoils of war. And he forbade them from (drinking nabīdh in) hollow gourds, green jars, and vessels coated with tar.

Shu'bah said: Sometimes he said "naqīr" and sometimes he said "muqayyar" (hollowed out). He said: Remember these things and inform those you have left behind of them.
