(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Hibbān ibn Mūsā narrated to us, he said: 'Abdullāh informed us, he said: Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhrī, from Mahmūd ibn al-Rabī', from 'Itbān, he narrated:

We prayed with the Prophet ﷺ; when he gave the salām, we gave the salām.

And Ibn 'Umar, may Allāh be pleased with them both, considered it desirable that when the imām gives the salām, those praying behind him should also give the salām.
