Sub-Chapter (Baab)

Sahih Al Bukhari 835

(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Musaddad narrated to us, he said: Yahyā narrated to us, from al-A'mash, he said: Shaqīq narrated to me, from 'Abdullāh ibn Mas'ūd, may Allāh be pleased with him, he narrated:

when we used to pray with the Prophet ﷺ, we used to say: Peace be upon Allāh from His servants; peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so. So the Prophet ﷺ said: Do not say that peace be upon Allāh, because Allāh Himself is al-Salām (Peace), but say that all verbal acts of worship are for Allāh, and all bodily acts of worship are for Allāh, and all financial acts of worship are for Allāh. O Prophet! Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allāh, and His blessings. Peace be upon us, and upon the righteous servants of Allāh, because when you (recite this greeting), this (greeting) will reach every servant in the heavens and the earth. And (say that) I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allāh, and I bear witness that (Sayyidunā) Muhammad is the servant of Allāh and His Messenger. Then let him choose whatever good du'ā' seems best to him.
