(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Mūsā narrated to us, he said: Hammām narrated to us, from Yahyā, from Abī Salamah, he narrated that:

I went to Abū Sa'īd al-Khudrī, may Allāh be pleased with him, so I said: Will you not walk with us to the date-palm garden, so that we may talk there? So he came out. Abū Salamah said: So I said: Narrate to us that hadith which you heard from the Prophet ﷺ about Lailat al-Qadr. He narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ made i'tikāf in the first ten days of Ramadān, and we also made i'tikāf with him. Then Jibrīl came to him and said: That which you are seeking is ahead. Then he made i'tikāf in the middle ten days, so we also made i'tikāf with him. Then Jibrīl came to him again and said: That which you are seeking is ahead of you. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ stood up on the morning of the twentieth of Ramadān and gave a khutbah, and said: Whoever made i'tikāf with the Prophet ﷺ should return, because I have seen Lailat al-Qadr, and indeed I have been made to forget it, and it is in the odd night of the last ten days. And I saw in a dream that I was performing sajdah in mud and water, and the roof of the mosque was made of date-palm branches, and we were not seeing anything in the sky. Then a cloud came and it rained upon us; so the Prophet ﷺ led us in prayer, until I saw the mark of mud and water upon his forehead and his nose; this was the confirmation of his dream.

Abū 'Abdullāh (Imām Bukhārī) said: It is as though al-Humaidī uses this hadith as evidence; he says: Do not wipe it off.
