(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Musaddad narrated to us, he said: Abū 'Awānah narrated to us, from Abī Bishr, from Sa'īd ibn Jubair, from Ibn 'Abbās, may Allāh be pleased with them both, he narrates that:

the Prophet ﷺ set out with a group of his Companions, intending the market of 'Ukāz. And in those days something had come between the news of the sky and the devils, and balls of fire were being thrown at them. So the devils went to their people and asked them: What has happened to you? They said: Something has come between us and the news of the sky, and balls of fire have been thrown at us. They said: Something new has come between you and the news of the sky, so travel in the easts and wests of the earth and investigate what thing has come between you and the news of the sky. Then they set out and went towards Tihāmah, where the Prophet ﷺ had gone intending the market of 'Ukāz, and he was leading his Companions in the Fajr prayer near a date-palm tree. When these jinn heard the Qur'ān, they listened attentively to it, so they said: This is that thing! By Allāh! This is the very thing that has come between you and the news of the sky. So from there they returned to their people, and said: O our people! "Indeed we have heard a wonderful Qur'ān, which guides towards right guidance, so we have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone with our Lord." (Al-Jinn: -). Then Allāh the Exalted revealed this verse upon the Prophet ﷺ: "Say: It has been revealed to me." (Al-Jinn: ) — although only the saying of the jinn had been revealed to him.
