Sahih Al Bukhari 680

Imām Bukhārī narrates: Abū al-Yamān narrated to us, he said: Shu'aib informed us, from al-Zuhrī, he said: Anas ibn Mālik al-Ansārī, may Allāh be pleased with him, informed me — and he followed the Prophet ﷺ, served him, and remained in his gathering — (he narrated:)

In that illness in which the Prophet ﷺ passed away, Abū Bakr, may Allāh be pleased with him, was leading them in prayer, until when Monday came and the Muslims had formed rows in prayer, the Prophet ﷺ opened the curtain of the chamber. He stood looking towards us, and his face was like the leaf of the Qur'ān. Then he smiled, laughing. So we thought that we would fall into fitnah because of the excess of joy at seeing the Prophet ﷺ. So Abū Bakr moved his heels back so that he might join the row, and he thought that the Prophet ﷺ was coming out to lead the prayer. Then the Prophet ﷺ gestured to us to complete our prayer, and let down the curtain, and he passed away on that same day.
