Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates that Musaddad related to us; he said: Bishr narrated to us; he said: Ibn ʿAwn narrated to us, from Ibn Sīrīn, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakrah,
from his father, who said: While we were sitting on our camels and a man was holding their reins, the Prophet ﷺ said: “Do you know which day this is?” We remained silent, thinking that he might soon give it a name other than its known name. He then said: “Is this not the Day of Sacrifice?” We said: “Yes.” He then said: “Which month is this?” We remained silent until we thought that he might soon give it a name other than its known name. Then he said: “Is this not the month of Dhul-Ḥijjah?” We said: “Yes.” He then said: “Indeed, your blood, your wealth, and your honour are sacred among you, just as this day is sacred in this month and in this city. Let those who are present convey this message to those who are absent, for it may be that the one to whom it is conveyed will remember it better than the one who heard it directly.”
