Imām Bukhārī narrates: 'Abdullāh ibn Yūsuf narrated to us, he said: Imām Mālik informed us, from Hishām ibn 'Urwah, from his father, from 'Ā'ishah, Umm al-Mu'minīn, may Allāh be pleased with her, she narrates that:
the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said in his illness: Command Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer. 'Ā'ishah narrates that I said: When Abū Bakr stands in your place, he will not be able to make the people hear the Qur'ān because of his weeping, so command 'Umar to lead the people in prayer. Then 'Ā'ishah narrated that I said to Hafsah: Say to him that when Abū Bakr stands in your place, he will not be able to make the people hear the Qur'ān because of weeping, so command 'Umar to lead the people in prayer. So Hafsah did the same. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: Leave it! Indeed you are (like) the women of the time of Yūsuf. Command Abū Bakr to lead the people in prayer. Then Hafsah said to 'Ā'ishah: I can never obtain any good from you.
