Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates that Muhammad ibn Muqātil Abū al-Hasan reported to us; he said: ‘Abdullāh informed us; he said: Shu’bah informed us from Qatādah,

from Anas ibn Mālik (may Allāh be content with him), who said: The Prophet ﷺ wrote a letter—or intended to have a letter written. It was said to him that those people would only read a letter that was sealed. So he had a silver ring made, on which was engraved “Muhammad [ﷺ], the Messenger of Allāh.” Anas said: It is as if I can still see the whiteness (shine) of that ring on his hand.

Shu’bah said: I asked Qatādah: Who said that its inscription was “Muhammad [ﷺ], the Messenger of Allāh”? He replied: Anas [said it].
