Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates that Ismā‘īl ibn ‘Abdullāh reported to us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Sa‘d narrated to me from Sālih, from Ibn Shihāb, from ‘Ubaydullāh ibn ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Utbah ibn Mas‘ūd, that
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allāh be content with him) informed him: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ sent a man with his letter and instructed him to deliver it to the ruler of Bahrain. The ruler of Bahrain then passed the letter on to Kisra (the Persian emperor). When Kisra read the letter, he tore it into pieces. Ibn Shihab said: I think that Ibn al-Musayyib said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ then supplicated against them, saying: “May they be torn apart completely, into every possible fragment.”
