Imam Bukhari narrates: Abdullah bin al-Sabbah narrated to us, he said: Abu Ali al-Hanafi narrated to us, he said: Qurrah bin Khalid narrated to us, he said:

We were waiting for al-Hasan (al-Basri), he delayed in coming until the time for his rising from the mosque had come, then he came and (gave the excuse for his delay) that these neighbours of ours had called us. Then he said that Anas, may Allāh be pleased with him, narrated that one night we were waiting for the Prophet ﷺ, until it became midnight, then the Prophet ﷺ came and led us in prayer, then he gave us a sermon, so he said: Listen! The people prayed, then slept, and you continued to be counted as in prayer for as long as you waited for the prayer. (Al-Hasan al-Basri said:) People continue to be counted as in good, for as long as they keep waiting for the good.

Qurrah said: This is a narration of Anas from the Prophet ﷺ.
