Sub-Chapter (Baab)

Sahih Al Bukhari 59

Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates that Muhammad ibn Sinan reported to us; he said that Sufyān narrated to us (ḥ). He (another chain) said: Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Falah narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Suhayl narrated to me; he said: My father narrated to me; he said: Hilal ibn Ali narrated to me from ‘Aṭā’ ibn Yasar from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

We were sitting in the company of the Prophet ﷺ when a Bedouin came and asked, “When will the Hour (Day of Judgment) come?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued speaking with his companions. Some of them said, “He heard the question but disliked it,” while others said, “No, he did not hear it.” When the Prophet ﷺ finished his speech, he said, “Where is the one who asked about the Hour?” The man said, “Here I am, O Messenger of Allah!” The Prophet ﷺ said, “When trust (amanah) is lost, then await the Hour.” The man asked, “How will the trust be lost?” The Prophet ﷺ replied, “When authority is given to those who are not qualified for it, then await the Hour.”
