Imām Bukhārī narrates: Mu'ādh ibn Fadālah narrated to us, he said: Hishām narrated to us, from Yahyā, from Abī Salamah, from Jābir ibn 'Abdullāh, may Allāh be pleased with them both, that:
'Umar ibn al-Khattāb, may Allāh be pleased with him, came after sunset on the day of the Battle of the Trench, and began to blame the disbelievers of Quraish. He said: O Messenger of Allāh! I could not pray the 'Asr prayer, until the sun is now about to set. The Prophet ﷺ said: By Allāh! I too have not prayed the 'Asr prayer. Then we went to a valley of Madīnah; he performed wudū for prayer, and we also performed wudū for prayer. Then, after the sun had set, he led the 'Asr prayer, then after that he led the Maghrib prayer.
