al-Hajjāj came, so we asked Jābir ibn 'Abdullāh, may Allāh be pleased with him, (about the times of prayer), so he said: The Prophet ﷺ used to pray the Zuhr prayer at midday, and he used to pray the 'Asr prayer at a time when the sun was shining, and he used to pray the Maghrib prayer at the time when the sun had set, and he used to pray the 'Ishā' prayer at different times: when he saw that the people had gathered, he would pray 'Ishā' early, and when he saw that the people had delayed, he would delay the 'Ishā' prayer, and he used to pray the Fajr prayer in the darkness at the end of the night.
