Sahih Al Bukhari 3368

‘Abdullāh ibn Yūsuf narrated to us; Mālik informed us from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim ibn ‘Abdullāh, that the son of Abū Bakr informed ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar,

from ‘Ā’ishah (may Allāh be content with them), the wife of the Prophet ﷺ: That the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Have you not seen that your people, when they built the Ka’bah, shortened it and did not build it upon the foundations of Ibrāhīm (upon whom be peace)?” So I (‘Ā’ishah - may Allāh be content with her) said: “O Messenger of Allāh, will you not return it to the foundations of Ibrāhīm (upon whom be peace)?” He replied: “Were it not that your people have only recently left disbelief (i.e., recently embraced Islām).”

Then ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar said: “If ‘Ā’ishah indeed heard this from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, then I think that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ only refrained from touching the two corners that face the Ḥijr [i.e. the Hatīm] because the House (of Allāh) had not been completed upon the foundations of Ibrāhīm (upon whom be peace).” Ismā’īl said: (The “son of Abū Bakr” mentioned) is ‘Abdullāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr
