Qays ibn Ḥafṣ narrated to us; Khālid ibn al-Ḥārith narrated to us; Shu’bah narrated to us; from Abū ‘Imrān al-Jawnī;

from Anas — ascribing it to the Prophet ﷺ: “Indeed, Allāh will say to the one who has the least punishment among the people of the Fire: ‘If you had everything on the earth, would you ransom yourself with it?’ He will say: ‘Yes.’ He will say: ‘I asked of you something easier than that while you were still in the loins of Ādam (upon whom be peace): that you not associate anything with Me — but you refused except to commit shirk (polytheism).’”
