‘Abdullāh ibn Yūsuf reported to us, he said: Mālik ibn Anas informed us, from Hishām, from his father,

from ‘Ā’ishah bint Abī Bakr (may Allāh be content with her) - the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ - that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform Ghusl due to Janābah [major ritual impurity], he would first wash his hands. Then, he would perform Wuḍū’ just as he performed Wuḍū’ for prayer. Then, he would insert his fingers into the water and run them through the roots of his hair. Then he would pour three handfuls of water over his head, and thereafter pour water over his entire body.
