Hazrat Ubadah bin As-Samit (may Allāh be pleased with him) was present at the Battle of Badr, and he was one of the representatives of the people of Madinah on the night of Al-Aqabah (the pass in Makkah where the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to go to preach to the people of Madinah at the time of Hajj). The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said, at that time a group of his Companions was around him, (he said:) Pledge to me that you will not associate anyone with Allāh, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill your children, nor slander any innocent person before your hands and feet (i.e., fabricate false accusations), nor disobey in any good matter. Then whoever among you fulfills his pledge, his reward is upon Allāh (by His generosity), and whoever commits any of these acts and is punished for it in this world, that will be an expiation for him, and whoever commits any of these and Allāh conceals it, then his matter is entrusted to Allāh's will; if He wishes, He may forgive him, and if He wishes, He
