Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates: Ismā’īl narrated to us; he said: Imām Mālik narrated to me, from Makhramah ibn Sulaymān, from Kurayb—the freed slave of Ibn ‘Abbās—

that ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allāh be content with him) informed him that he spent the night at the house of the Prophet’s wife, Lady Maymūnah (may Allāh be content with her), who was his maternal aunt. He said: I lay down across the width of the bed, while the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and his wife lay along the length of the bed. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ then slept until about half the night, or a little before it or a little after it. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ awoke, sat up, and began wiping the traces of sleep from his face with his hands. Then he recited the last ten verses of Sūrah Āl ‘Imrān. After that, he went to a hanging waterskin, performed Wudū’ from it, and performed the ablution thoroughly. Then he stood up and began praying. Ibn ‘Abbās said: I then stood up and did the same as he had done. Then I went and stood beside him. He placed his right hand on my head and took hold of my right ear and gently twisted it (and by holding my ear, moved me from the left side to the right side). He then prayed two rak’ahs, then two rak’ahs, then two rak’ahs, then two rak’ahs, then two rak’ahs, then two rak’ahs. Then he prayed the witr. After that, he lay down until the caller to prayer came to him. Then he stood up and prayed two light (short) rak’ahs, then he went out of the chamber and led the Fajr prayer.
