Al-Imām al-Bukhārī - upon whom be mercy - narrates: Sa’d ibn Ḥafṣ reported to us; he said: Shaybān reported to us, from Yaḥyā, from Abū Salamah, that ‘Aṭā’ ibn Yasār informed him that
Zayd ibn Khālid informed him that he asked ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān (may Allāh Almighty be content with him): “Tell me: if a man has sexual intercourse but no semen is discharged, what is the ruling?” ‘Uthmān replied: “He should perform Wuḍū’ just as he performs Wuḍū’ for prayer, and he should wash his private part.” ‘Uthmān said: “I heard this ḥadīth from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.” (Zayd ibn Khālid said:) “Then I asked ‘Alī, al-Zubayr, Ṭalḥah, and Ubayy ibn Ka’b - may Allāh Almighty be content with them - about it, and all of them instructed me to do the same.”
