Al-Imām al-Bukhārī - upon whom he mercy - narrates: Ḥafṣ ibn ‘Umar narrated to me, who said: Shu’bah narrated to us, from Ibn Abī al-Safar, from al-Sha’bī,

from ‘Adī ibn Ḥātim (may Allāh Almighty be content with him), who said: I asked the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, and he said: “When you release your trained hunting dog and it kills (the game), then you may eat from it. But if the dog eats from it, then do not eat, for it has hunted for itself.” I said: I release my dog, then I find another dog with it. He ﷺ said: “Then do not eat, for you mentioned the Name of Allāh over your dog, but you did not mention the Name of Allāh over the other dog.”
