Al-Imām al-Bukhārī - upon whom be mercy - narrates: Isḥāq narrated to us; he said: ‘Abd al-Ṣamad informed us; he said: ‘Abd al-Raḥmān ibn ‘Abdullāh ibn Dīnār narrated to us; he said: I heard my father narrating from Abū Ṣāliḥ,

from Abū Hurayrah (may Allāh Almighty be content with him), from the Prophet ﷺ, that: A man once saw a dog so overcome by thirst that it was eating moist earth. Thereupon, the man took off his leather sock, drew water in it, and continued giving the dog water until he quenched its thirst completely. Allāh Almighty appreciated this act of mercy, and He admitted him into Paradise.
