Al-Imām al-Bukhārī - upon whom be mercy - narrates: ‘Abdullāh ibn Yūsuf narrated to us; he said: Imām Mālik narrated to us, from Sa’īd al-Maqburī,

from ‘Ubayd ibn Jurayj, who said: I said to Sayyidunā ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allāh Almighty be content with both of them): “O Abū ‘Abd al-Raḥmān! I have observed you doing four things which I have not seen anyone else among your companions doing.” He said: “O Ibn Jurayj, what are those things?” I replied: “I have seen that you touch (and kiss) only the two Yemeni Corners of the Ka’bah; I have seen you wearing leather sandals without hair; I have seen you dyeing with a yellow dye; and I have seen that when you are in Makkah, the people enter into iḥrām upon sighting the moon, whereas you do not enter into iḥrām until the eighth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah.” ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar - may Allāh Almighty be content with both of them - said: “As for the corners of the Ka’bah, I have only seen the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ touching the two Yemeni Corners. As for the leather footwear without hair, I saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ wearing leather sandals without hair and performing ablution while wearing them, and I therefore love to wear such footwear. As for the yellow dye, I saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ dyeing himself with yellow, and thus I also dye myself with it. And as for entering into iḥrām, I saw that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ did not enter into iḥrām until his camel had set out carrying him.”
