Al-Imām al-Bukhārī - upon whom be mercy - narrates: From Ibrāhīm, who said: Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān reported that Ibn Shihāb said—however ‘Urwah narrates this report—from Ḥumrān:

When ‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān - may Allāh Almighty be content with him - performed ablution, he said: “Shall I not relate to you a ḥadīth? Had it not been for a verse in the Book of Allāh, I would not have narrated it to you.” Then he said: “I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: ‘No person performs ablution properly, then stands and performs the prayer, except that Allāh forgives the sins committed between that prayer and the next prayer—until he completes that prayer.’”

‘Urwah - upon whom be mercy - said: That verse is the statement of Allāh Almighty: “Indeed, those who conceal the clear proofs and the guidance We have sent down, after We have made them clear for the people in the Book—upon them is the curse of Allāh and the curse of those who curse.” (Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:159)
