Al-Imām al-Bukhārī (upon whom be mercy) narrates: Ādam reported to us, he said: Shu’bah reported to us,

from ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn Ṣuhayb, who said: I heard Ḥazrat Anas ibn Mālik (may Allāh Almighty be content with him) say that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, whenever he entered the place of relief, would supplicate, saying: “O Allāh! I seek refuge with You from male and female devils.” (Allāhumma innī a’ūdhu bika mina al-khubthi wa al-khabā’ith)

In the narration of this hadith from Shu’bah, Muḥammad ibn Ghargharah followed (made mutāba’ah of) Ādam. And Ghundar said (using the wording): “When he would go to the place of relief.” And Mūsā narrated it from Ḥammād with the wording: “When he entered the place of relief.” And Sa’īd ibn Zayd said: ‘Abd al-‘Azīz narrated to us with the wording: “When he intended to enter the place of relief.”
