Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates: Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; he said: Mu’ādh ibn Hishām narrated to us; he said: my father narrated to me from Qatādah, who said:
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allāh Almighty be content with him) narrated to us that: The Prophet ﷺ was seated on the saddle of his mount, and Mu’ādh was seated behind him. He ﷺ said: “O Mu’ādh ibn Jabal!” Muʿādh replied: “I am present, O Messenger of Allāh, and at your service.” He ﷺ said again: “O Mu’ādh!” He replied: “I am present, O Messenger of Allāh, and at your service.” This exchange occurred three times. Then he ﷺ said: “Whosoever sincerely bears witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allāh, and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh, Allāh will make the Fire forbidden for him.” Mu’ādh said: “O Messenger of Allāh, should I not inform the people of this so that they may rejoice?” He ﷺ replied: “Then they would rely upon it.” So Mu’ādh informed people of it at the time of his death, in order to avoid sin.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَمُعَاذٌ رَدِيفُهُ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ قَالَ " يَا مُعَاذُ بْنَ جَبَلٍ ". قَالَ لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَسَعْدَيْكَ. قَالَ " يَا مُعَاذُ ". قَالَ لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَسَعْدَيْكَ. ثَلاَثًا. قَالَ " مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَمُعَاذٌ رَدِيفُهُ عَلَى الرَّحْلِ قَالَ: يَا مُعَاذُ بْنَ جَبَلٍ. قَالَ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَسَعْدَيْكَ. قَالَ: يَا مُعَاذُ. قَالَ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَسَعْدَيْكَ، ثَلَاثًا. قَالَ: مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَّ محَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللهِ صِدْقًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ إِلَّا حَرَّمَهُ اللهُ عَلَى النَّارِ. قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَفَلَا أُخْبِرُ بِهِ النَّاسَ فَيَسْتَبْشِرُوا؟ قَالَ: إِذًا يَتَّكِلُوا. وَأَخْبَرَ بِهَا مُعَاذٌ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ تَأَثُّمًا. اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صِدْقًا مِنْ قَلْبِهِ إِلاَّ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّارِ ". قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَفَلاَ أُخْبِرُ بِهِ النَّاسَ فَيَسْتَبْشِرُوا قَالَ " إِذًا يَتَّكِلُوا ". وَأَخْبَرَ بِهَا مُعَاذٌ عِنْدَ مَوْتِهِ تَأَثُّمًا .
