Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates: ‘Uthmān narrated to us. He said: Jarīr informed us, from Manṣūr, from Abū Wā’il,
from Abū Mūsā al-Ash’arī (may Allāh Almighty be content with him), who said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allāh! What is fighting in the path of Allāh? For among us is one who fights out of anger, and another who fights out of zeal and tribal pride.” The Prophet ﷺ raised his head—and when he raised his head, the questioner was standing—and he said: “Whoever fights so that the word of Allāh is supreme, then he is fighting in the path of Allāh, Mighty and Majestic.”
