Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates: We were told a Hadīth by ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn ‘Abdullāh, who said: Imām Mālik narrated to us from Ibn Shihāb from Al-A‘raj

from Abū Hurayrah (may Allāh be content with him) that he said: People say that Abū Hurayrah narrates many Hadīths, and if it were not for these two verses in the Book of Allāh, I would not have narrated any Hadīth at all. Then he recited these verses: “Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance after We have made it clear in the Book for the people, w curses them, and [so do] the cursed ones.” — except for those who repent, reform, and make it clear; those are the ones whose repentance I accept, and indeed, I am the Most Merciful, the Oft-Accepting of Repentance. (Al-Baqarah 2:159-120) Indeed, among the Muhājirūn, our brothers were busy in the markets trading, and among the Ansār, our brothers were busy in agriculture. And indeed, Abū Hurayrah would remain constantly with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on a full stomach, attending at times when others could not be present, and he would memorise the hadiths that the others did not remember.
