(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Sa'īd ibn 'Ufair narrated to us, he said: Al-Laith narrated to us, he said: 'Uqail narrated to me, from Ibn Shihāb, he said: 'Urwah informed me that 'Ā'ishah, may Allāh be pleased with her, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, informed him that:
on the day "khusūf al-shams" occurred (the sun was eclipsed), on that day he stood and recited "Allāhu Akbar," then recited at very great length, then performed a very long rukū', then raised his head, so he recited "Sami'a Allāhu liman hamidah," and remained standing in the same way, then he recited at length, and this was less than the first recitation, then he performed a long rukū', and this was less than the first rukū', then he performed a long sajdah, then he prayed the second rak'ah similar to the first rak'ah, then he gave the salām, and at that time the sun had become uncovered. Then he gave a khutbah to the people; regarding the eclipse of the sun and the moon he said: These two are among the signs of Allāh; they are not eclipsed because of anyone's death, nor because of anyone's life. So when you see them both, take refuge in prayer.
