(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Muhammad bin Muqatil narrated the hadith to us, he said: Abdullah informed us, he said: al-Awza'i informed us, he said: Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abi Talhah al-Ansari narrated the hadith to us, he said: Hazrat Anas bin Malik al-Ansari (Allāh be pleased with him) narrated the hadith to us, he said:

in the time of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, drought came upon the people, so at the time when the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was delivering the khutbah upon the pulpit on the day of Jumu'ah, a Bedouin stood up and began saying: "O Messenger of Allāh! Wealth has perished and the family and children are hungry, so pray to Allāh for us that He send down rain upon us." Hazrat Anas said: Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ raised both his hands, and at that time there were no clouds in the sky, so clouds surged up like mountains, then he ﷺ remained upon the pulpit, until I saw that rain was falling upon his ﷺ beard. So it kept raining upon us that day, and the next day, and the third day, and the day after that, until the next Jumu'ah. Then that same Bedouin stood up, or it was another man, so he said: "O Messenger of Allāh! The houses have fallen down and the wealth has drowned, so pray to Allāh for us." Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ raised both his hands upward and supplicated: "O Allāh! Rain around us, and do not rain upon us." So towards whichever direction of the sky he ﷺ pointed with his hand, the clouds would split apart from there, until Madinah became like a basin, until the valley named Qanat kept flowing for a month, so whoever came from whichever direction, he gave the same news, that abundant rain was falling.
