(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Muhammad bin Abi Bakr narrated the hadith to us, he said: Mu'tamir narrated the hadith to us, from Ubaidullah, from Thabit, from Hazrat Anas (Allāh be pleased with him), he narrates that

the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the khutbah on the day of Jumu'ah, then the people stood up and began saying in a loud voice: "O Messenger of Allāh! Famine of rain has occurred, and the trees have turned red, and the animals have perished, so pray to Allāh that He send down rain upon us." Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ supplicated: "O Allāh! Send down rain upon us," he ﷺ said this twice, and by Allāh! We were not seeing any piece of cloud in the sky, then clouds surged up and it began to rain, and he ﷺ came down from the pulpit, then he ﷺ led the prayer, then when he ﷺ finished the prayer and turned, it kept raining continuously until the next Jumu'ah. Then when the Prophet ﷺ stood up to deliver the khutbah, the people said in a loud voice: "The houses have fallen down and the roads have been cut off, so pray to Allāh that He hold back this rain from us." So the Prophet ﷺ smiled, then supplicated: "O Allāh! Rain around us, not upon us." Then Madinah became clear of the rainwater, then it used to rain around Madinah, and not a single drop of rain would fall upon Madinah, then I looked towards Madinah, and it was like a crown.
