(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Qutaibah bin Sa'id narrated the hadith to us, he said: Ismail bin Ja'far narrated the hadith to us, from Sharik, from Hazrat Anas bin Malik (Allāh be pleased with him), he narrates that

a man entered the mosque on the day of Jumu'ah from the door which is towards Dar al-Qada, and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was at that time standing and delivering the khutbah. He stood up and faced towards the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, then said: "O Messenger of Allāh! The properties have perished and the roads have been cut off, so pray to Allāh that He send down rain upon us." Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ raised his hands, then supplicated: "O Allāh! Send down rain upon us! O Allāh! Send down rain upon us! O Allāh! Send down rain upon us!" Hazrat Anas said: And by Allāh! We were not seeing any clouds gathered in the sky, nor scattered clouds, and there was nothing between us and the mountain of Sila (no cloud was in any hiding place), nor between any mansion and any house. Then clouds surged up from behind the mountain of Sila like a shield, and when those clouds reached the middle of the sky, they spread out, then it began to rain. And by Allāh! We did not see the sun for six days. Then on Jumu'ah, a man entered from the same door, and at that time the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was standing and delivering the khutbah, so he stood facing towards him, so he said: "O Messenger of Allāh! The properties have perished and the roads have been cut off, so pray to Allāh that He hold back the rain from us." Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ raised his hands, then supplicated: "O Allāh! Rain around us, not upon us! O Allāh! Upon the hillocks and upon the hills and in the bellies of the valleys and upon the places where trees grow." Hazrat Anas said: Then the rain was held back, and we were walking about in sunshine.

Sharik said: I asked Hazrat Anas bin Malik: Was this the same first man? Hazrat Anas said: I do not know.
