(Imām Bukhārī narrates): Al-Hasan bin Muhammad narrated the hadith to us, he said: Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Ansari narrated the hadith to us, he said: My father Abdullah bin al-Muthanna narrated the hadith to me, from Thumamah bin Abdullah bin Anas, from Hazrat Anas (Allāh be pleased with him), that

"When famine came upon the people, Hazrat Umar bin al-Khattab (Allāh be pleased with him) sought rain through the means of Hazrat Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, and made this supplication: 'O Allāh! We used to supplicate to You through the means of our Prophet, so You would send down rain upon us, and now we present to You the means of the uncle of our Prophet, so send down rain upon us.'" Then rain would be sent down upon them.
