Al-Imām al-Bukhārī narrates: Ismā’īl ibn Abī Uways narrated to us; he said: Imām Mālik narrated to me, from Hishām ibn ‘Urwah, from his father,

from ‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Āṣ (may Allāh Almighty be content with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “Indeed, Allāh will not take away knowledge by removing it from the hearts of the servants, but He will take away knowledge by taking away the scholars. When He leaves no scholar, people will take the ignorant as their leaders. They will be asked, and they will give verdicts without knowledge; thus they will go astray themselves and lead others astray.”

Al-Farbari said: ‘Abbās narrated to us; he said: Qutaybah narrated to us; he said: Jarīr narrated to us, from Hishām, with a narration similar to this ḥadīth.
